Riddle
I am two questions. First, I surface in silence, a thought in the night, about my existence, my reason, my light.
Then I'm on the road ever stretching, through sunshine and rain, the future I walk, to joy or to pain.
Life's Two Big Questions: "Why Am I Here?" and "Where Am I Going?"
The great questions of the human heart—"Why am I here?" and "Where am I going?"—are not random. They are echoes of a deep, spiritual reality. While the world offers many temporary or self-made answers, the gospel of Jesus Christ provides a response that is both profound and eternal, grounding our identity and our destiny in God Himself.
Why Am I Here? To Know and Glorify God
From a Christian perspective, your life is not an accident. The answer to "Why am I here?" begins before you were even born.
You Were Created with a Purpose: The Bible teaches that a loving God intentionally designed you. You are "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14) in His very image. Your existence is not a cosmic mistake; it is a deliberate act of a Creator who knows you and loves you. Your primary purpose, therefore, is rooted in Him: to know Him, to live in a relationship with Him, and to reflect His glory in the world.
Sin Created a Distance: The feeling of confusion and meaninglessness that so many people experience is a result of sin, which broke that original, perfect relationship with God. It turned us away from our true purpose and left us searching for meaning in things that can never fully satisfy—success, possessions, and even other people.
Christ Restores Your Purpose: This is the core of the gospel's good news. God didn't leave us lost. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to bridge the distance. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus paid the price for our sin and made it possible to restore our relationship with God. When you place your faith in Christ, your original purpose is renewed. Your "why" becomes clear: to live as a child of God, to love Him and others, and to be His ambassador in the world (2 Corinthians 5:20), sharing the same hope that you have found.
Where Am I Going? Toward an Eternal Home with Christ
The world tells you to think about "where you're going" in terms of a career, a five-year plan, or a comfortable retirement. The gospel offers a destination that is infinitely more secure and glorious.
Your Path is a Journey with Jesus: For a Christian, the answer to "Where am I going?" is not just a place, but a Person. The path is a daily walk with Jesus. It means following His teachings, being guided by the Holy Spirit, and gradually being transformed into becoming more like Him. This gives every day—the good and the bad—a divine direction and purpose. You are not wandering; you are on a journey of discipleship.
Your Destination is Secure and Eternal: The ultimate hope of the gospel is not just a better life now, but an eternal life with God forever. Jesus promised, "I go to prepare a place for you" (John 14:2-3). Your final destination is not the grave, but a new heaven and a new earth—a restored creation where there will be no more sorrow, pain, or death, and you will dwell with God face-to-face (Revelation 21:4).
This Hope Changes Everything Now: This eternal destination isn't just a "someday" comfort. It provides incredible peace and courage for today. Knowing where you are ultimately going frees you from the crushing pressure of having to build a perfect life here on earth. Your successes don't define your worth, and your failures don't define your future. Your destination is secure because of what Christ has done for you.
In the gospel, life's biggest questions are not a source of anxiety, but a beautiful invitation. You are invited to find your purpose in the God who made you and your eternal destination in the Savior who loves you.
